Selling an iPhone is common now — every time Apple launches a new model, plenty of people move on from their old one. And an old iPhone can fetch a surprising amount if you know what drives the price. Here's what pawn shops look at.
What Determines Your iPhone's Value
- Model and age. The newer the model, the better the offer. Phones more than a couple of years old are harder to sell.
- Condition. A working iPhone in clean shape earns the most; scratches, dents, or a non-working phone drop the value sharply.
- Carrier. The carrier your phone is tied to can affect the price.
- iCloud lock. If the phone is still locked to an iCloud account, no pawnbroker will buy or lend against it — remove it first.
- Completeness. The box, cable, and charger all raise your offer.
- IMEI/ESN check. Brokers verify the IMEI to confirm the phone isn't reported stolen or tied to an unpaid carrier balance.
How to Sell Your iPhone at a Pawn Shop
- Back up your data to a computer or drive.
- Clear the storage and sign out.
- Turn off Find My iPhone and remove the iCloud lock.
- Clean it up — looks matter.
- Gather the box and accessories — the more complete, the higher the offer.
